Operation Backfill

in the website

Caira and Garrett at home with Molly and cousins, by Holli Clanton, May 9 2011

I added Beth as a contact on Facebook today. Marissa asked me yesterday why I hadn’t contacted her mom for photographs of Caira and Garrett, and after sending me a link to Beth’s profile, it became clear that I had been blocked by someone who had access to the account.

There are literally hundreds of photographs of both Garrett and Caira. At least. Birthdays and Christmases and family get togethers; events and photographs that Mariah never mentioned or for which she told me no photographs existed. I’ve been on an emotional rollercoaster ever since; happy that I now have access to the kids that don’t involve having to speak to Mariah, and sad that I’ve missed so much in their lives to date. I’m morose that I’m irrelevant to them, and ecstatic that they are awesome, intelligent kids.

I’m going to backfill in many of these photographs in the coming weeks, tag names and locations, and backdate the posts to when they were posted on Facebook. Take the above photo:

Context and attribution in the same location.

I will also fill in blanks left by me-photographs that never made it to here because they were uploaded to Flickr or Facebook instead: Be it broken links, bad grammar, and spelling mistakes, or gaps left where I chose not to tell a story, I want to leave the blog with a more complete record of events.
