On Sunday last I ran a 54 kilometre loop from Urdorf to Sihlbrugg and back again to Urdorf, in a little over seven hours! While I missed my target time by an hour, I am so happy to have completed training and the run in grand style.
My friend began to blog again, which made me feel guilty over my lack of attention here. Everything in my head has become such a thing that Sarah joke “I am the night!” with me. Whenever I come back here the post I want to write tries to hijack the blogging space as another struggle-piece. […]
My last therapist told me part of why I struggle to find words for my emotions is that I rationalize over them. It sounds a bit dumb, so bear with me for a moment for an analogy with endurance running. The farther I run, the father and faster I can run. While there are techniques […]
Taken on a wonderful morning in December 2019 during a beautiful run from the beach at Strandhill. This one was fair fun-first up over Knocknarea, and then a swing out to the head beyond the airport. The weather was perfect-foggy at the start, only for it to melt away into clear blue skies for a […]
That winning smile. :)
Gisteren heb ik door de Burren gerend, vanuit Fanore naar Ballyvaghaun. De zon scheen neer, de lucht was blauw. Als men kent, de Burren is een land van veel rotsen en heuvels bij het oceaan.
Sarah finished her first race-and run, ever-on Friday! I’m so proud of her for doing it.
Take tabbed content, where, at any time only one pane is shown out of several given. This is such a common pattern that the Angular guide for @ContentChildren uses tabs as an example of use. In very short, @ContentChildren() is syntactic sugar for the results of a query the compiled DOM. Matching elements are available […]
My partner, because fabulous!
It turns out Rejykavik is known for its many shopkeeper cats such as Ofelia! :3
Nine snapshot photos of Montjuïc and Bareclona.
“How do I be someone else?” became such an obsessive question that when it came to it I failed to see how I have. After Reykjavik I signed up for the Amsterdam full because I didn’t feel any sense of accomplishment. I grabbed my bag from the drop, had a bit of a cry outside […]
Taken at the 2019 KBC Dublin Half Marathon in Phoenix Park, Saturday September 21. Look at that beard. Swoon at those specs.

The Reykjavik Marathon was held last weekend in, well, Reykjavik in Iceland. From a start at the Pond in the city center, the marathon led a long and scenic […]
It’s such a dumb cliche that A Marathon Will Change Your Life, but here I’m two beers down and thinking “…yeah?” Maybe training has changed me? Although nobody changes overnight unless you do something like chop off their hand (please don’t do this), sustained effort upon the self will lead to dramatic improvement over the […]

The route took us from the town of Keel across desolate bogs, along the beautiful golden beach at Doogort, around […]
A day of running on Inishmore with the Galway Bay Brewery Running Club on August 4.
Fun race! I finished seventh at this year’s Clare Burren Marathon Challenge 10k.
The one rule I have kept to with this blog since the first day has been: write only when I feel like it. If the mood doesn’t take me, then I don’t. Well, truth be told here, the mood hasn’t taken me in some months. The first and big obvious reason for not writing has […]

This recipe has been an on-and-off staple of my home cooking since 2009. Last presented here in 2013, my chili has evolved with my tastes. These days I mostly eat vegetarian food, and have gotten over my earlier distaste of kidney beans. Speaking only for myself, I’ve desensitized by palette to hot and spicy food. […]
The past month has been a bit mad for me. I ran in three races over three weekend at the same time I completed a cross-country house move. So, move! It’s no secret that I haven’t been at all happy in Dublin over the past two years. It reached the point that the only thing […]
Ja, ik weet dat ik hier vaak klagen, maar…ik ben gelukkig. Ik werk, ren, drenk bier en leer Nederlands. Alles is goed. :)
But now what now what? It’s this same moronic question I come back to after every bitty accomplishment. Well I ran over the hill. Now what? Oh great, I tackled some ineffable inner demon. What’s next? To paraphrase the song, I don’t want what I know, but I know what I want. Everything I have […]
Go watch Why I Run by Exurb2a. His reasons are my reasons. Right now I’m training for Connemarathon in April and the Run Clare Half Marathon. By running more longer and more difficult courses than the race-and in any given weather-the run on the day will be easier. Today’s route (link) was my toughest yet, […]
The most important tenet of my life has become the test of belief and faith.
